Misbehaviors, Intercultural Learning and the
Digital Age
INTRODUCTION
Since I am still in the early stages of my academic career, my interests are diverse and I recognize that there is much more to learn regarding education as a whole. When i applied for the MAED Program i was ready to learn more around the specific areas that i would like to develop as an educator. Some areas of specific interest for me include education and the racial gap and assessment and awards in children’s’ learning which are covered in MSU online MA in Education. I enjoy interaction with students on their own level, gaining insight into their perceptions and how they perceive the world. The idea of playing a dynamic role in helping them develop, greatly appeals to me. I gain enormous fulfillment from having the capacity to help them learn and discover new things about the world. I also believe that it is a great challenge trying to put across a new concept so that a group of students, who until that time did not understand, now do.
Throughout this page you will find the 8 artifacts (pdf documents available to download) which stigmatized my overall progress in the Program.
1st Take Away: Ethnography as a Means of Educational Inquiry
Ethnography literally means a description of a people. It is important to understand that ethnography deals with people in the collective sense, not with individuals. As such, it is a way of studying people in organized, enduring groups, which are characterized as communities or societies. The distinct way of life that characterizes its group is its culture. The study of culture involves an examination of the group’s learned and common behaviors, customs and beliefs. Taking this point to the educational inquiry things are becoming a bit more complicated since education is a sector will a wide rang of social beliefs and customs with not a common pattern. In terms of its suitability of analyzing educational problems it is worth noting the complexity within the definition of education as well as the complexity that education has in real practical terms. Moreover, participant observation is a well- qualified means of inquiry as it involves direct participation for solving an educational problem.
I have expanded this technique and its applications in the Educational sphere but the most significant thing is that by examining it i understood basic principles needed, now, for my PhD. ED 800 significantly helped me develop more my knowledge and applicability of this research method.

2nd Take Away: Dealing with Misbehaviors
Failure Syndrome students, Hyperactive, Defiant, Aggressive and many more were part of my personal experience within my teaching practice setting. Myself and the other teacher identified such misbehaviors in the Foundation. Afterwards, they were closely examined with the psychologist in order to find effective strategies to combat them and, then, were applied to each child independently. At this point and afterwards, I felt engaged to what I have been studying and discussing with my group and had clearly the ability to connect it to my classroom practice. At the middle of the course I concluded that CEP883 gave me the opportunity to explore a case of Failure Syndrome student in the Foundation and find the appropriate instructional strategies.

3rd Take Away: Negative Stereotypes Many concepts have contributed to my current teaching philosophy and have helped me develop my perspectives and practice. But this one contributed also to the outside; implying what i have studied how it is connected to my actual teaching practice setting. CEP 832 defined properly what i was actually doing within the Foundation i used to work. One of the main concepts is concerning the negative stereotypes within classroom. More precisely, the analysis of Claude Steele- social psychologist- about negative social stereotypes has been of great importance to me. I have studied for one year Psychotherapy and I am always focusing not only to the teaching part but also to the psychological one when talking for my students. Moreover, I found very interesting his study on people who face repeated messages that they are inferior in a certain kind of activity leading then, quite often, chose another area of interest. Negative stereotypes sometimes have the strongest influence on students who are able to cope with a certain course. Working in a Foundation with primarily misbehaviors within classroom gave me the opportunity to explore and demonstrate theoretically what i have already practiced.

4th Take Away: Self- directed Learning
Many individuals around the globe study hard and then reach a good working position and then at some point in their lives understand that they are missing something; an ideal working position and/ or a hobby that have left in favor of their current vacancy. The process that they pass to achieve their elusive goals is called self- directed learning. By definition, self- directed learning yields sustained behavioral change and this change is intentional. Moreover, self- directed learning is an intentional change in an aspect of who you are (the real) or who you want to be (the ideal), or even both.

5th Take Away: The Nature of Adult Learners Malcolm Knowles introduced the term ‘andragogy’ describing the special needs of adult learners and the differences between children learners and adults. Those assumptions (need to know, self- concept, prior experience, readiness to learn, learning orientation, motivation to learn) highlighted to all educators the statement that cautions them not to prescribe a standardized approach to learning when teaching adults. This is, too, related with what has been discussed above for self- directed learning. More precisely, another factor that should be taken into account is that adult learners need to be self- directed. Learning proceeds independently of education and schooling. In evolutionary psychology, learning is an instinct that progresses in all humans without conscious effort and in the absence of formal instruction, moreover, more freedom should given to courses taken by adults. Their responsibilities, needs and demands limits their space and time, therefore, educators should give them the appropriate flexible format of learning in order to meet their needs. Promoting international education within adult learners- a subject well studied in MSU MA in Education, gave me a greater insight on what i have chosen to follow as an academic career. More precisely, my actual PhD is focusing on the promotion of international mindedness within adult learners. |

6th Take Away: Teaching Perspective Teaching perspectives, paradigms and philosophies not only reflected my teaching practice setting but also reshaped it. The Teaching Perspectives Inventory was a totally new thing that I have been exposed to and surprised me for the level of accuracy that its results produced for my teaching profile. More analytically, it indicated that my most dominant teaching perspective is the so- called ‘Nurturing’. This perspective reflects the educational environment that I am working with children that have been taken away from their homes. This inventory identified the empathy and caring that I am showing to those children but also the goals that I put forward in order for them to gain self- esteem. |

7th Take Away: Digital Tools within Education
Every digital tool is an expression of human will and a common will to share know- how knowledge. Long ago before Digital Nation was filmed, Nietzsche argued that intellectual technologies should come in to popular use as they often promote new ways of thinking to the general population and do not limit themselves to a small, elite group. The news, now more than ever, come at high speed and force their readers to self- reflect on their own with a do-it- yourself kit. Thoughts and concerns about the impact of technology are not new. For many centuries, thinkers have questioned whether human inventions are making people narrower or deeper. From the time of Socrates, people started worrying about these questions and a definite answer has not been given up until now. All this history has been written to answer and tackle one main thing; the training of the young in mastery of the new digitalization. EAD 882 was one among the subjects that really helped me develop my thoughts around education and technology.
8th Take Away: International Education as a ‘cognate’
From Engineering to Law, and from Medicine to Social Sciences, every student should be taught by educators to be international minded. We are going through a century that International Education cannot stand as an option but rather as a precondition. International mindedness, global citizenship education, peace and conflict resolution education are all part of what is used, here, as International Education. The purpose of this essay is to analyze my ‘cognate’ interest (International Education) in relation with a sample of valuable and trustworthy Internet sources, which provides me with a unified experience to enrich my current knowledge in education and graduate program. EAD 882 helped me develop my thoughts on how international education can be incorporated with classroom together with technology.
International Education, although well written and analyzed in books needs closer attention on how it is exposed to the new digital tools and open educational resources. I will start with a valuable number of sources with mostly video presentations of analysts and professors examining the various aspects surrounding the ways International Education functions. Anya Kamenetz expressed her concern of education today, her statements is a good start to think on International Education, which I have chosen as cognate in order to demonstrate how an international graduate student may enhance his/her education. Edupunksguide.org is a nice starting point with various colleges placed in the Home page similar to a Chemistry Periodic table. I searched and found a link to California Institute of Integral Studies; it concluded courses about leaders in Integral Education to attack passionate learners and international renown.
